Christchurch hair salon Pure Hair goes the extra mile for clients at higher risk of infection

(12 May 2020) A Christchurch hair salon which pioneered the move to reduce chemical overload has created a dedicated treatment area at its salon specifically to look after clients who are at higher risk of infection with COVID-19.

Pip Adams, Director of Pure Hair and Barbers on Colombo Street in Sydenham created the dedicated area to cater for clients with a less robust immune system who may be concerned about contracting COVID-19.

Clients can request their hairdressing in this separate, 40-square-metre area, apart from other clients and staff.

In addition to the option to enter the salon via a separate entrance, clients using this facility will also be attended to by a single member of staff.

“With the anxiety around transmission of the virus, I wanted to make a special effort to reassure the most vulnerable of our clients,” said Ms Adams.

“We have put these unique procedures in place so that these clients can still enjoy a long-anticipated visit to the salon in a safe way that will ensure their peace of mind. This is on top of a robust cleaning and disinfection protocol as advocated by our governing body, NZRAH.”

“Our clients’ health and well-being was at the heart of our becoming a sustainable, natural organic salon,” noted Ms Adams. “That same ethos informed our decision to sequester more vulnerable clients in a separate area.”

Clients wishing to partake of the service who have not already booked are asked to ring the salon on 03 377 1044 or make a booking online via the website. The salon is fully booked until the middle of June, and staff will be working 7 days a week to meet the pent-up demand for haircare.

Established in 2008 Pure Hair and Barbers is Christchurch’s leading organic and sustainable hair salon. It is located at 455 Colombo Street in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Our training room at Pure has been redeployed to care for clients needing extra distancing.
